US seeks to cut Tehran off from all sources of income and resources
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the administration has launched a “financial offensive” against Iran, declaring that the era of Tehran “dressing extortion as security guarantees” has come to an end.
“We are now entering the endgame. At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary,” the Treasury secretary wrote on X.
Bessent said the United States intends to cut Tehran off from all sources of income and resources.
“Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains the tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone,” he added.
According to the secretary, Iran’s military capabilities and nuclear program have already been almost completely neutralised as a result of actions taken by President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump announced an “economic operation” aimed at persuading Iran to reach a deal.
