US assesses financial transparency of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan

24 August 2026 12:12

The US State Department has reviewed the fiscal transparency of 139 governments, including Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, assessing access to budgetary information, public debt data, state-owned enterprises, revenues from natural resources and government procurement practices.

Among Central Asian nations, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan met the minimum transparency standards, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

Overall, 73 governments met the required standards, while 67 fell short. Of those that did not meet the requirements, 14 countries showed significant progress toward improving financial transparency.

Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan failed to meet the minimum standards.

The assessment is based on financial data from 2025.
