Grandson of Soviet spy announces bid for French presidency

Raphaël Glucksmann, grandson of Soviet intelligence operative Rubin Glucksmann, has announced his intention to run in France’s 2027 presidential election.

In an interview with TF1, the leader of France’s centre-left Place Publique party and a member of the European Parliament said he also plans to take part in primaries that his party and France’s Socialist Party are expected to hold in the autumn, Caliber.Az reports.

To officially register as a presidential candidate in France, an individual must secure the support of 500 elected officials.

The French presidential election is scheduled for April 18, 2027, with a second round to be held on May 2 if necessary.

Incumbent President Emmanuel Macron will not run after serving two consecutive terms.
