EU approves €6.1 billion in new defence procurement for Ukraine

24 August 2026 10:49

The European Commission has approved €6.1 billion in new defence procurement for Ukraine as part of the European Union’s €90 billion loan package, with the funds set to finance air and missile defence systems, missiles, ammunition and radar equipment.

The new procurement package supplements previously approved plans worth €16 billion, of which €8.35 billion has already been allocated to Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe intended to increase defence supplies to Ukraine amid intensified Russian attacks.

Most of the new procurement will be carried out through European defence companies. The European Commission has also called for increased production capacity in response to Russia’s continued use of ballistic missiles and drones against Ukraine.
