Condition of Norway’s King Harald V worsens over weekend

The condition of Norway’s 89-year-old King Harald V worsened over the weekend, although his health is currently stable, the Norwegian Royal House said.

“His Majesty The King's condition worsened over the weekend. His Majesty is receiving antibiotics for a bloodstream bacterial infection and has responded to this treatment. The situation is stable. His Majesty will remain at the Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, and is on sick leave until further notice,” the Royal House said in a statement.

King Harald is being treated with antibiotics for a bacterial infection in his bloodstream. He had previously been admitted to hospital as part of his treatment for haemolytic anaemia.

While the King remains on sick leave, Crown Prince Haakon is acting as Head of State.
