Ukrainian, Swedish FMs discuss transfer of Gripen fighter jets

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said he discussed with his Swedish counterpart Maria Malmer Stenergard the transfer of Gripen fighter jets.

Sharing a post on X, he thanked Sweden for unwavering support, Caliber.Az reports.

Malmer Stenergard has arrived in Kyiv for a visit marking Ukraine’s Independence Day.

According to Sybiha, key topics in his talks with his Swedish counterpart included measures to protect Ukraine from ballistic attacks, the schedule for implementing agreements on the transfer of Gripen fighter jets, and work on a bilateral drone agreement, known as the Drone Deal.

“Sweden’s exceptional Gripen jets are preparing to protect Ukrainian skies — we took stock of the implementation schedule for our leaders' agreements, as well as our ongoing work on the bilateral Drone Deal,” he wrote.

The Ukrainian foreign minister also briefed the Swedish side on the situation at the front and stressed the importance of neutralising threats in the Black Sea to ensure freedom of navigation and the security of grain exports.

“I am deeply grateful to Sweden for standing with Ukraine in word and deed — defending our independence and our shared European values,” he concluded.

Earlier, European leaders and the president of the European Council also arrived in Kyiv for the celebration.
