President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan signed the Board of Peace Charter during an unveiling ceremony at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos on January 22, along with other leaders.
The Board of Peace was initially presented as a mechanism to support ceasefire efforts, reconstruction, governance and stabilisation in the Gaza Strip under US President Donald Trump’s peace plan. Since its launch, the initiative has been described as evolving to address a wider range of global conflicts beyond Gaza.
Membership in the organisation is set for a three-year term, while countries that contribute $1 billion are eligible to obtain permanent status.
The initiative is rooted in the Comprehensive Plan for Ending the Gaza Conflict, which was presented in September 2025. It has since gained international recognition, including endorsement through United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 adopted on November 17, 2025.
