Chechnya: Drone strike ignites fire at Russian Special Forces University

29 October 2024 12:36

A drone has attacked an unoccupied building at the Russian Special Forces University (RUS) in Gudermes, Chechnya, resulting in a fire on the roof.

According to regional leader Ramzan Kadyrov, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 AM, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

“As a result of the aerial drone strike, the roof of the unoccupied building at the Russian Special Forces University caught fire. There are no casualties or injuries, and the fire has been extinguished,” Kadyrov reported.

He further stated that the operations of the RUS have not been suspended, and all services are functioning as normal.

Meanwhile, as the war marks its 977th day, significant events have unfolded. In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that at least four individuals lost their lives due to overnight Russian bombings. An earlier strike on Kharkiv resulted in six injuries and considerable damage to the Derzhprom building, a notable landmark from the 1920s.

In Kyiv, a Russian drone attack on the Solomianskyi district injured two people and ignited a residential building. Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown, experienced a missile strike that killed one and injured 11. Additionally, eight injuries were reported in Chuhuiv from a separate Russian attack.

On the battlefield, Russian forces have reportedly gained control of the village of Tsukuryne in the eastern Donetsk region. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have intercepted 66 of the 100 drones launched by Russia in an overnight operation, with some drone strikes causing power outages in the Sumy and Poltava regions.

In response, Russia's air defences reported the destruction of seven Ukrainian drones targeting areas near its border. A separate Ukrainian drone strike on ethanol plants in Voronezh resulted in injuries to two individuals and damage to industrial facilities.
