China "absolutely complicit” in Russia's invasion of Ukraine Statement by British MI6 head

The head of Britain’s MI6 foreign spy service, Richard Moore, believes that China is “absolutely complicit” in Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and also poses an increasing threat to other states.

Moore shared this assessment during a public event at the British embassy in the Czech Republic, Politico reports.

Explaining his thesis about the "“absolutely complicit” of Beijing and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the head of MI6 noted that "the Chinese very clearly supported the Russians".

“They fully supported the Russians diplomatically, they abstained during key votes at the United Nations, they absolutely cynically repeated all Russian narratives, especially in places like Africa and Latin America – blaming NATO and all that stuff,” Richard Moore listed.

At the same time, he noted that such support had its price for Russia.

“The Russians feel very uncomfortable that the balance of power with China has shifted against them,” he added.

Moore noted that China refused to criticize Moscow's actions, instead accusing the US and NATO of provoking the Kremlin, and criticized sanctions against Russia. The latter, in turn, has strongly supported China amid tensions with the US over Taiwan.

Speaking generally about China, the head of MI6 shared that this area takes the most resources and efforts of his agency: “The resources and scope of Chinese intelligence are huge, they are deployed abroad in large numbers.”

Britain's intelligence chief also warned of the threats posed by Chinese "data traps" and technological advances. He stressed that China has now moved from a "cautious foreign policy to an aggressive one under Xi's leadership".
