Israel accepts Qatar’s 60-day ceasefire proposal in Gaza
Israel has agreed to a temporary ceasefire deal proposed by Qatar, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
According to Israeli media, US President Donald Trump confirmed Israel’s acceptance of the ceasefire following extensive negotiations between US Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer.
Under the terms of Qatar’s proposal, the ceasefire will last for 60 days. As part of the agreement, Hamas will release eight Israeli hostages on the first day, followed by an additional two hostages on the 50th day, leaving 10 hostages still in Hamas’s custody at the conclusion of this phase.
The agreement also calls for Hamas to return the bodies of 18 deceased hostages in three separate stages during the ceasefire period.
On the military front, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) will withdraw from the “Morag corridor.” However, the proposal does not specify any withdrawal plans regarding the “Philadelphi corridor” and the “Netsarim corridor.”
