Kyrgyzstan’s parliament on September 2 unanimously approved Maksat Asanaliev’s dismissal as Prosecutor General and his appointment as head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), 24.kg reported.
The decision followed a review earlier in the day by the parliamentary Committee on Judicial and Legal Affairs, Law and Order, Combating Crime and Countering Corruption. The committee backed Asanaliev’s release from the post, with lawmakers subsequently approving the decision unanimously.

Asanaliev resigned as Prosecutor General on June 30. Malik Bekturganov was subsequently appointed acting head of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Asanaliev has previously served as acting chairman of the SCNS.
