Trump says Israel has agreed to conditions for 60-day Gaza ceasefire
President Donald Trump announced that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.
He added that the plan would soon be presented to Hamas through intermediaries Qatar and Egypt.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War.”
He expressed hope that Hamas would accept the deal, warning of the consequences if they do not: “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”
The Israeli embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the announcement.
Last week, Trump indicated that a ceasefire in Gaza might be “close,” but did not provide further details on the progress or the parties involved in the discussions. The conflict began with the Hamas assault on Israel on October 7, 2023.
President Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on July 7.
