Telegram founder hails role of platform in anti-Macron protests
Telegram founder Pavel Durov has expressed pride that his messaging app has become “a tool for protests in France against Macron’s failed policies,” amid growing public dissatisfaction with President Emmanuel Macron’s administration.
“After eight years of neglect, people are done with empty PR and posturing – and they’re striking back,” Durov wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Massive protests under the slogan “Let’s Block Everything” are scheduled across France on September 10. Authorities expect around 100,000 citizens to participate in demonstrations in major cities, including Paris, Lyon, Toulouse, Nantes, and Rennes.
According to France Info, the movement does not have a single leader. It is driven by a coalition of local activists spanning the political spectrum, from the far left to the far right. Former members of the Yellow Vest movement are also taking part in the nationwide actions.
