Poland confirms three drones downed amid 19 airspace violations overnight

10 September 2025 14:15

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Polish air defences shot down three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that entered national airspace during a wave of drone incursions overnight from September 9 to 10.

Speaking before the Sejm, Poland’s lower house of parliament, Tusk stated that a total of 19 separate airspace violations by UAVs were detected and tracked throughout the night, although he emphasized that these figures were not yet final, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Nineteen incursions into the airspace have been recorded and accurately tracked. These are not final figures,” Tusk said.

The confirmed downing of three drones comes amid heightened tensions along Poland’s eastern border, which has seen repeated aerial intrusions believed to be linked to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Tusk also noted that additional reports of downed UAVs are being verified as military and intelligence teams continue their assessment.

According to the Prime Minister, the airspace violations occurred over a seven-hour period, beginning at 11:30 p.m. local time on September 9 (01:30 Baku time on September 10) and continuing until 6:30 a.m. (08:30 Baku time) the following morning.

The incursion marks one of the largest and most sustained aerial breaches of NATO airspace in recent months and follows closely on previous drone incidents that have drawn sharp criticism from both Polish officials and NATO allies.

Tusk is expected to meet with senior defence and intelligence officials later in the day to evaluate the threat and consider further security measures.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Poland’s readiness to defend its sovereignty and called for continued NATO solidarity and vigilance amid growing concerns about the regional security environment.
