Trump urges EU to impose 100% tariffs on China, India
U.S. President Donald Trump has called on EU leaders to impose tariffs of up to 100% on India and China as part of joint efforts to increase pressure on Russia to end its war against Ukraine.
According to the Financial Times, citing three officials familiar with the matter, Trump made the request following talks between senior U.S. and EU officials in Washington, where ways to increase Moscow’s economic costs of the war were discussed.
"We’re ready to go, ready to go right now, but we’re only going to do this if our European partners step up with us," one U.S. official told the publication.
Trump’s proposal comes amid White House frustration over difficulties in negotiating a peace settlement and Russia’s increasingly aggressive air attacks on Ukraine.
