Macron condemns Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace
French President Emmanuel Macron denounced the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during Moscow’s latest strike on Ukraine, calling the violation “simply unacceptable.”
“The incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during Russia’s attack on Ukraine is simply unacceptable. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” Caliber.Az quotes Macron as saying on X.
He urged Moscow to halt what he described as a “dangerous escalation” and pledged continued backing for Poland, a NATO member that shot down several drones after they crossed its border.
“I call on Russia to put an end to this dangerous escalation. I reiterate our full solidarity with the Polish people and their government,” Macron said.
The French leader added that he would soon hold talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. “We will not accept any compromises when it comes to the security of the Allies,” he said.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Polish air defences shot down three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that entered national airspace during overnight drone incursions from September 9 to 10.
He stated that a total of 19 separate airspace violations had been detected and tracked, although he cautioned that the figures were not yet final.
“Nineteen incursions into the airspace have been recorded and accurately tracked. These are not final figures,” Tusk noted.
