UN Security Council to discuss Israeli strike on Hamas leadership in Qatar
The UN Security Council is set to convene this afternoon (September 10) to discuss Israel’s recent attack targeting Hamas leadership in Qatar, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said on X.
Danon indicated that he will inform the Council that Israel intends to continue pursuing terror figures wherever they are located, dismissing condemnations from both allies and adversaries, Caliber.Az reports.
“I intend to make it absolutely clear to the Council: there will be no immunity for terrorists – not in Gaza, not in Lebanon, and not in Qatar. We will not back down and we will continue to act decisively against the leaders of terror wherever they are hiding,” he said.
Speaking to foreign media, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Gilad Leiter, confirmed that the country will persist in targeting any Hamas leaders who may have survived the strike.
“If we didn’t get them this time, we’ll get them next time,” Leiter said.
While brushing aside criticism of the operation, including from the US, Leiter emphasised that Washington and Jerusalem remain “united in the effort of eliminating Hamas as being a threat to peace in the Middle East.”
“We have acted together in the past, we’ll act together in the future,” he added.
On September 9, the Israeli military carried out a “precise strike” targeting senior Hamas officials in Doha, Qatar.
Witnesses reported multiple explosions and smoke rising over the Katara District. Israeli media said the attack aimed at top Hamas figures, including Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya.
According to Qatari authorities, one security official was killed and several others were injured.
Hamas denied media reports that members of its negotiating delegation were killed, confirming instead that six people died in the strike, including the son of Gaza leader Khalil al-Hayya and a member of Qatari security forces.
