Massive Russian strike on Ukraine: Two dead, over 20 injured UPDATED

07 September 2025 12:14

Russian attacks on Kyiv have left more than 20 people injured and two dead, according to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, who reported the casualties on Telegram.

Klymenko said that four residential high-rise buildings were damaged in the city. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, firefighters are continuing to extinguish fires and clear debris, with part of a building having collapsed.

“Unfortunately, at this location, two people died—a woman and her two-month-old child. It is likely that others remain trapped under the rubble. More than 20 people have been injured,” Klymenko stated.

The minister added that the fire in the government building has been localized over an area of more than 1,000 square meters, with rescue teams continuing their efforts to extinguish the blaze.

In total, around 400 emergency service personnel are currently working in the capital, supported by approximately 100 specialized vehicles and firefighting helicopters.

The Russian army launched a record number of drones at Ukraine on the night of September 7 to 8 — 810 unmanned aerial vehicles—along with missile strikes, the Ukrainian Air Forces said.

A total of 823 aerial attack targets were detected by the Air Force’s radio-technical troops. The assault included 810 Shahed strike drones and various decoy drones launched from locations in Russia, including Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Orel, Shatalovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Gvardeyskoye and Chauda in Crimea, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.

Nine Iskander-K cruise missiles were fired from the Kursk region, and four ballistic missiles (Iskander-M/KN-23) were launched from Crimea.

The attack was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

Ukraine’s air defence forces neutralised 751 enemy targets—747 Shahed and decoy drones of various types, as well as four Iskander-K cruise missiles.

“The strikes hit 9 missiles and 54 strike UAVs across 33 locations, with debris from downed drones falling in 8 locations,” the report states.

There were casualties, including a child.

The Ukrainian Air Forces warned that the attack is ongoing, with several drones still in the airspace.
