Houthis claim hypersonic missile strike on Israel
Yemeni Houthi rebels said they launched a hypersonic ballistic missile at targets near Jerusalem, escalating their confrontation with Israel amid ongoing regional tensions.
In a statement posted on a Telegram channel in Sana’a, the group claimed responsibility for two separate operations against Israel.
“The first was directed at key facilities of the Israeli enemy in the area of occupied Jerusalem, using a ‘Palestine-2’ hypersonic ballistic missile with a fragmentation warhead,” the statement said.
According to the Houthis, the second operation targeted “several sites in the occupied area of Umm al-Rashrash” using three explosive-laden drones.
Meanwhile, Israel’s military said it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen late Tuesday, shortly after its strike on senior Hamas leaders in Qatar. The launch set off air raid sirens in Jerusalem, the Dead Sea region and parts of the occupied West Bank.
Earlier, Israeli forces destroyed a drone from Yemen near the Red Sea resort of Eilat, a frequent target of Houthi attacks.
The Houthis, who dominate northern Yemen, have intensified their cross-border strikes since an Israeli attack on 28 August killed several of their government officials in Sanaa.
The group says it is acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, while Israel has retaliated with airstrikes on Houthi-held territory, including Sanaa and the port of Hodeidah.
