US lawmaker labels Russian drone debris in Poland as “act of war”
U.S. Representative Joe Wilson condemned Russia after debris from an unidentified drone was found in Poland near the Belarus border, the latest in a series of incidents in a region on high alert amid the war in Ukraine.
“This is an act of war, and we are grateful to NATO allies for their swift response to war criminal Putin’s continued unprovoked aggression against free and productive nations,” Caliber.Az quotes Wilson as saying on X.
The lawmaker called on the U.S. President to take decisive action. “I urge President Trump to respond with mandatory sanctions that will bankrupt the Russian war machine and arm Ukraine with weapons capable of striking Russia,” he stated.
Wilson criticised Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ongoing military campaign, arguing that Moscow’s operations appear to be extending beyond Ukraine.
“Putin is no longer content just losing in Ukraine while bombing mothers and babies, he is now directly testing our resolve in NATO territory,” Wilson said, citing Putin’s remark that “Russia knows no borders.”
He added, “Free and prosperous nations will teach Russia about borders.”
On September 7, Polish authorities found debris from an unidentified drone near the Belarus border, the latest in a series of aerial incidents amid heightened regional tensions from the war in Ukraine.
Police in Biała Podlaska reported the discovery near the Terespol crossing in Polatycze. Authorities, including the local prosecutor’s office, secured the site, and no injuries were reported.
