Romania scrambles F-16s as Russian drone attacks resume near border
On the night of July 2, two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets were dispatched, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.
The Ministry stated that at 23:15 local time, the aircraft took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to monitor the airspace situation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
This action was triggered by a resurgence of Russian drone attacks near the Ukrainian border with Romania.
The National Military Command Centre alerted the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to implement population warning measures in Tulcea County, and RO-Alert notifications were sent to residents.
The Ministry also highlighted that it has kept allied forces continuously informed about the situation in real time and maintains ongoing communication with them.
