China criticises US decision to cut trade ties with Spain over Iran
China has criticised the United States’ decision to sever trade ties with Spain after Madrid refused to allow US forces to use its military bases for strikes on Iran.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said US-Israeli military actions against Iran violate international law and that trade should not be instrumentalised or weaponised, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Trump said on March 3 that the United States would end all trade with Spain following its refusal to permit the US military to use its bases for operations related to strikes on Iran.
"Spain has been terrible," Trump told reporters during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, adding that he had told Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to "cut off all dealings" with Spain.
"We're going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don't want anything to do with Spain," he added.
