China, France call for de-escalation amid Middle East tensions
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that major powers must not exploit their military superiority to launch arbitrary attacks against other nations as he had a phone conversation with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot.
“The world should not revert to the law of the jungle,” Wang said during a conversation, CLS China reports.
The ministers discussed the escalating situation in the Middle East and emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation. France highlighted that, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, it bears a special responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. The French side also noted that recent US and Israeli military actions against Iran were conducted without consultations with the Security Council.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to upholding international law and avoiding double standards, stressing that the Iranian nuclear issue should be addressed through political and diplomatic channels rather than military force.
The two ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation aimed at reducing regional tensions and safeguarding the fundamental norms of international relations.
