Chinese envoy: Asian stability undermined due to US speaker's visit to Taiwan
Chinese Ambassador to the US Qin Gang has said that Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan had "greatly undermined" stability in Asia.
The US should bear "full responsibility" for these developments, Russia’s Lenta.Ru quotes Gang as saying.
"This event greatly undermined the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and also damaged the China-US relations," the embassy said.
The Chinese authorities decided to impose sanctions against Pelosi and her relatives after the politician's visit to Taiwan.
The foreign ministry noted that Pelosi visited the island despite Beijing’s protests.
The Chinese sources said that this is a harsh interference in China's domestic politics.
Beijing also stopped military cooperation with the US because Washington made a decision on Pelosi’s trip despite
China’s numerous protests. Pelosi paid an official visit to Taiwan on August 2, 2022.
