COP29 president to join global leaders at Davos forum on climate action
A panel discussion titled "The Road to COP30" will be held on January 21 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, featuring Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology, Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29.
Other participants will include Simon Steel, the UN Executive Secretary for Climate Change, André Correa do Lago, Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate, Energy and Environment, and other high-ranking officials, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting will be held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 20 to 24, under the theme Collaboration for the Intelligent Age. Drawing over 3,000 leaders from more than 130 countries, including 60 heads of state and government, the forum will address critical global issues amidst an era of technological transformation and geo-economic uncertainty.
The meeting will focus on five key areas: reimagining economic growth, adapting industries to technological shifts, investing in human capital, safeguarding the planet through climate innovation, and rebuilding trust in a fragmented world.
The event, which will feature livestreamed sessions accessible to the public, underscores the importance of collaboration in tackling global crises, such as climate change, while ensuring equitable progress in the face of rapid technological advances like AI and quantum computing.
Prominent leaders attending include Ursula von der Leyen, Donald J. Trump, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, alongside heads of international organizations like António Guterres and Kristalina Georgieva.
With participation from over 1,600 business leaders and experts from civil society, the forum aims to foster innovative solutions to address pressing challenges and create a smarter, more sustainable future for all.
