Council of Europe chief welcomes Armenia-Azerbaijan peace initialing, hails regional development prospects
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset in Strasbourg to discuss ongoing cooperation and the recent initialing of a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, the Armenian government’s press service confirmed.
During the meeting, Berset highlighted the active and productive partnership between the Council of Europe and the Armenian government, noting that this collaboration has significantly contributed to advancing institutional reforms across multiple sectors in Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He expressed confidence that the bilateral programs currently underway will continue to be effectively implemented, fostering further progress.
Prime Minister Pashinyan underscored the importance of the visit, emphasizing that Armenia is at a critical juncture after surmounting substantial challenges over the past five years. He reaffirmed Armenia’s view of the Council of Europe as a strategic partner in its democratic development, underlining the organization’s pivotal role in promoting democracy, human rights, and the rule of law within the country.
The sides jointly acknowledged the successful execution of cooperation initiatives between Armenia and the Council of Europe and reviewed key issues on the bilateral agenda, including the ongoing process of democratic reforms in Armenia.
Welcoming the initialing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Berset expressed optimism that the new era of peace in the South Caucasus will unlock extensive opportunities for regional development and stability.
