Denmark orders advanced field hospitals from Rheinmetall
German defence firm Rheinmetall has secured an order from Denmark’s Ministry of Defence to supply five Role 2 field hospitals, the company confirmed.
The contract, signed at the end of 2025 between Rheinmetall subsidiary Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH and the Danish procurement authority, was booked in the fourth quarter of last year, with a value in the mid double-digit million euro range. Delivery of all units is scheduled within two years.
The order includes three Role 2B (Basic) hospitals and two Role 2E (Enhanced) hospitals. The Role 2B units are fully containerized and truck-mounted for mobility, featuring a tent-based forward module capable of operating independently or alongside the main unit. They provide diagnostic and surgical capabilities to stabilize patients near operational areas before transfer to rear medical facilities.
The Role 2E systems offer expanded capacity, with additional operating rooms, intensive care units, a CT scanner, laboratory and pharmacy containers, and a dental treatment unit. All containers are engineered to withstand military environmental conditions and transport requirements. Medical equipment was selected in coordination with Danish authorities to ensure compatibility with systems already in use by the Danish Medical Service.
Both hospital variants are designed to function independently in the field for extended periods, with integrated power, water, and oxygen supplies, as well as sanitary facilities.
"We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by a major NATO partner. The collaboration with the Danish procurement agency and the end-users has been extremely professional, cooperative, and goal-oriented from the outset. Together, we have been able to develop high-performance, mission-oriented solutions for the Danish Medical Service," said Armin Krenn, managing director of Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme.
