Digital simulation reveals how Ukraine struck Russian bomber fleet VIDEO

04 June 2025 12:16

Ukrainian digital enthusiasts from the AiTELLy project have used computer modelling to illustrate how the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) carried out a dramatic operation against Russia’s long-range bomber fleet.

The visualisation, released shortly after the events, reconstructs what the Ukrainian side has called one of the most ambitious drone attacks of the war so far.

The operation — named “Pautina,” or “Spider Web” — was launched on June 1 and, according to RBK-Ukraine, citing security sources, aimed to disable key components of Russia’s strategic aviation.

The complex attack reportedly targeted four military airfields deep inside Russian territory: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo. These bases are known to house some of Russia’s heaviest strategic bombers, including the Tu-22M3 and the nuclear-capable Tu-95MS.

Sources told RBK-Ukraine that the operation was personally overseen by SBU chief Vasyl Maliuk. Fires and visible damage were reported at the targeted sites, with Ukrainian media claiming that more than 40 aircraft were affected by the strikes.

In response, the Russian Ministry of Defence issued a formal statement describing the Ukrainian actions as “terrorist attacks” conducted using FPV (First Person View) drones. According to Moscow’s version of events, airfields across five regions — Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur — were targeted.

The ministry claimed that the assaults on the Ivanovo, Ryazan, and Amur airbases were successfully repelled. However, it acknowledged that at airfields in Murmansk and Irkutsk, drones launched from nearby territory ignited fires that damaged several pieces of aircraft equipment.

“The fires have been extinguished. There were no casualties among military or civilian personnel. Some of those involved in the attacks have been detained,” the Russian Defence Ministry stated.
