Dozens killed in Boko Haram strike in northeastern Nigeria
On September 1, at least 81 people lost their lives in a brutal attack on the village of Mafa, northeastern Nigeria.
The assault in the late afternoon was carried out by aggressors believed to be linked to Boko Haram, a radical Islamist terrorist group, Caliber.Az informs, citing Russian media.
The attack was carried out by approximately 150 militants who arrived on motorcycles, armed with guns and hand grenades. The incident occurred at around 4:00 PM local time, according to officials from Yobe State, where the village is situated.
Authorities have yet to confirm the number of people injured in the attack.
Modu Mohammed, a resident of Mafa, reported that several more locals are missing and estimated the death toll to be over 100. He mentioned that some bodies remain in the bush.
Boko Haram, a notorious terrorist group, was founded in northern Nigeria in 2002, with Borno State as its stronghold. The group’s influence was significantly weakened in 2015 after a major offensive by the Nigerian Armed Forces, which drastically reduced the territory under its control.
