Eastern Europe leads global alcohol consumption rankings
Countries in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region record the world’s highest per capita alcohol consumption levels, according to the latest World Population Review rankings.
Romania tops the list with an average annual consumption of 17.1 liters of pure alcohol per person. It is followed by Georgia at 15.5 liters and Latvia at 14.7 liters, Caliber.Az reports.
Several other countries in the region also report high consumption levels, exceeding those of Russia, where per capita consumption stands at 10.5 liters, and Ukraine at 7.4 liters.
Eastern European and Black Sea countries have historically ranked among the highest worldwide for alcohol consumption, a pattern often linked to cultural traditions, social norms, and historical factors across the region.
