Egypt, US discuss Iran negotiations in bid to ease regional tensions
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff on May 1, focusing on developments in ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations and broader regional stability.
According to a statement, the two sides discussed recent progress in talks with Tehran in light of an amended Iranian proposal, as well as wider geopolitical developments in the Middle East, Caliber.Az reports.
Abdelatty emphasised the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to support negotiations and reach a political settlement to avoid further escalation.
He stressed “the need to adhere to the negotiating approach and to continue efforts aimed at reaching understandings between the concerned parties, in order to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire, the end of the war, and the reduction of regional tension.”
For his part, Witkoff praised Egypt’s role in supporting de-escalation efforts and expressed Washington’s intention to maintain close coordination with Cairo.
