Eleven killed in bus–truck collision in southern Brazil
At least 11 people were killed after a passenger bus collided with a truck in the southern Brazilian city of Pelotas, according to government officials and Brazil’s Federal Highway Police (PRF).
The accident occurred at approximately 11:25 a.m. local time at the 491st kilometre of the BR-116 federal highway, a major route linking southern Brazil to other regions. The collision blocked traffic in both directions for several hours, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Rescue operations were complicated by sand that had entered the bus, which was being transported on the truck’s trailer, authorities said. Emergency teams worked to recover victims and clear the roadway.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, the PRF added.
