Elusive artist Banksy reveals latest mural in UK capital
The elusive street artist Banksy confirmed on December 23 that a newly discovered mural in London is his latest work, after posting images of it on his official Instagram account.
The artwork, which surfaced on the side of a building in Bayswater, west London, shows two children lying on the ground dressed in winter hats and boots. One of the figures points upward toward the sky. Painted in black and white above a garage, the mural quickly sparked speculation about its creator before Banksy shared photographs of it online, his customary way of authenticating new pieces, CBS News writes.
An identical image was also reported at the base of a tower in central London earlier in the week. However, Banksy did not post images of that version, leaving its status unconfirmed.
Banksy, who began his career spray-painting buildings in the English city of Bristol, has become one of the world’s most famous contemporary artists. His works frequently sell for millions of dollars at auction and often attract crowds, as well as vandals and thieves.
Although Banksy is known for art that criticises government policies on issues such as migration, war, and social justice, the latest mural does not appear to convey an explicit political message.
As with many of his works, the meaning of Banksy’s latest mural remains open to interpretation.
