Erdogan vows to shield Türkiye amid Iran crisis, prioritizes citizens’ safety
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed that the peace and prosperity of Türkiye’s 86 million citizens remain the government’s top priority, as Ankara takes extensive measures to avoid being drawn into the escalating crisis surrounding Iran.
“Our state is strong and possesses all capabilities to prevent attacks against it. Claims by opposition figures about Ankara’s helplessness are completely unfounded,” Erdogan told a briefing following a government meeting in Ankara, AZERTAC reports.
One of the key topics discussed by the cabinet was the situation in Iran and its potential impact on Türkiye. “From the very first day of the escalation around Iran (February 28), we have been analyzing all possible scenarios, including a prolonged conflict and the expansion of its geographic scope. We remain on high alert without relaxing vigilance. Our goal is to keep the country safe from this fire,” he added.
Erdogan also highlighted that Türkiye is closely coordinating its response with NATO allies.
The president emphasized Ankara’s efforts to seek a peaceful resolution, citing phone conversations with leaders of 16 countries. “We express solidarity with our brotherly countries, particularly Azerbaijan. We oppose any scenario that could undermine peace and stability in our region. No one should make mistakes or act against friendly states,” he said.
