EU announces nearly $3-million aid for Rohingyas in Bangladesh
11 November 2022 07:00
The European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, announced additional funding of 3 million euros for Bhasan Char.
The announcement was made during a meeting at the EU envoy's Bangladesh office in the capital, The Daily Star reports.
State Minister for Disaster Management Dr. Enamur Rahman was also present at the meeting.
There are some 22,000 Rohingyas who were relocated from the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar. Initially, the UN or other foreign aid agencies had declined to fund the Bhasan Char project.
Late last year, they agreed to provide assistance for Rohingyas in Bhasan Char after the UN Refugee Agency signed an agreement with the Bangladesh government.
Ylva Johansson arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit on November 10.
