EU warns any attack on member state to be treated as one on entire bloc
The European Commission has warned that any attack on a European Union member state would be treated as an attack on the bloc as a whole, amid rising tensions with Russia.
Speaking in Brussels on April 7, European Commission spokesperson Thomas Renier addressed reports of Russian threats against the Baltic states. The warnings followed decisions by those countries to allow Ukraine to use their airspace for operations targeting Russian territory, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Renier said that the EU viewed the security of its member states collectively, emphasising that an attack on one member would be considered an attack on the entire European Union.
He added that the Commission was aware of media reports concerning Russian threats toward the Baltic region and was monitoring the situation closely.
The spokesperson also outlined several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the EU’s defence against external interference. These include efforts to counter drone threats and the development of the “Air Shield” initiative, both of which have been identified as priorities for enhancing the bloc’s security framework.
