Ex-Pentagon adviser urges US to leave Iraq
16 December 2023 12:53
Former Pentagon senior adviser, Colonel Douglas McGregor called on the US to withdraw from Iraq, describing the US military's stay in the country as a strategic disaster.
In a post on his social media page X, McGregor specified that more than five thousand US troops are currently staying at 12 or 13 bases in Iraq. He called them "sitting targets."
The colonel wondered why the US remains in Iraq after 20 years, whether it is to cover up its failure in that country.
McGregor emphasised that the Americans have created chaos in Iraq.
On March 20, 2003, the US and its allies launched the military operation "Iraqi Freedom" aimed at overthrowing the power of dictator Saddam Hussein.
