Polish PIORUNs in sight as Kyiv negotiates military loan
Kyiv is actively negotiating with Warsaw for a €120 million loan aimed at financing the acquisition of Polish-made weaponry, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha revealed.
During a joint press conference on August 1, Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski confirmed Warsaw’s commitment to delivering the 48th and 49th military aid packages to Ukraine within the current year, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
These successive shipments highlight Poland’s pivotal role as a key supplier of military assistance to Kyiv.
Minister Sybiha emphasized the proven combat effectiveness of Poland’s PIORUN man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS), describing them as “very effective, battle-tested” assets. “We are ready to purchase them,” he stated, indicating that discussions with Sikorski included exploring the possibility of securing a credit facility to facilitate these acquisitions.
The proposed loan would enable Ukraine to procure a broader range of defence products from Poland, a country recognized for its longstanding and robust defence manufacturing industry. “Poland has strong traditions in defence manufacturing, and we are open to considering procurement from them,” Sybiha added, signaling Kyiv’s intent to deepen defence ties with Warsaw.
"This is a shared interest, a mutually beneficial one, and a contribution to our common future," he added.
Poland has already delivered 46 military aid packages to Ukraine, with total assistance exceeding EUR 4 billion.
