Ukrainian drone strike hits Russian airbase in Crimea
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) special forces unit "A" carried out a successful drone strike on a major Russian military airbase in occupied Crimea, targeting the Saky airbase in the early hours of August 4.
According to the SBU, the operation resulted in the destruction of a weapons depot and five Russian military aircraft. The attack specifically damaged one Su-30SM fighter jet and destroyed another. Additionally, three Su-24 bombers were struck, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Saky airbase is considered one of Russia’s most critical aviation hubs for operations in the Black Sea region. The loss of the aircraft, particularly the Su-30SM — valued between $35 and $50 million — represents a significant setback for Russian air capabilities.
“This SBU special operation marks another step in weakening Russia's airpower and overall occupying forces,” the agency said.
In a statement following the strike, the SBU emphasised the ongoing threat to Russian forces:
“Occupiers must remember: they will never be safe on our land.”
