Expert: South Caucasus has real conditions for integration
The South Caucasus has “objective conditions” for deeper regional integration, according to Azerbaijani analyst, Chairman of the Centre for South Caucasus Studies, Farhad Mammadov.
Speaking at a press conference in Gabala following a meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society representatives, Mammadov said the current geopolitical environment is creating fresh momentum for cooperation across the region, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He noted that the shifting geopolitical balance is providing an additional push towards what he described as “regional integration” in the South Caucasus, adding that bilateral engagement has improved. He pointed out that an Azerbaijan–Armenia dialogue format, which did not previously exist, is now in place.
Mammadov also said the region is becoming increasingly attractive from a transport and logistics perspective, though he cautioned that infrastructure readiness still varies among countries and requires further coordination.
“States have their own interests and roles in the integration process,” he said, adding that aligning these functions would take time. However, he stressed that the “objective conditions” for regional integration are already present and continue to exist.
