Fatal paragliding crash in Türkiye's Fethiye claims two lives
A devastating paragliding accident occurred on April 23 in Fethiye, Türkiye, when a 22-year-old British tourist and a 29-year-old experienced pilot fell to their deaths after their parachute failed during a tandem flight.
The pair had taken off from the famed Mount Babadag, standing at 1,981 meters, a popular spot for paragliding enthusiasts. But shortly after launch, disaster struck as their parachute malfunctioned, sending them plunging toward the steep rocky slopes below, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Other paragliders in the vicinity immediately contacted emergency services to report the crash. However, when rescue teams arrived at the scene, they confirmed that neither of the individuals had survived the horrific fall. The tragic moment of evacuating their bodies from the perilous area was captured on video.
In the wake of the accident, all paragliding flights on Mount Babadag have been temporarily suspended.
Turkish authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the failure, as this popular paragliding destination grapples with the tragic loss.
Babadag is considered one of the best paragliding spots in Europe due to its stunning views near the coast, but the jumps from the mountain regularly have fatal consequences.
