Finnish MPs urge government to provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks

Supplying Ukraine with even a small number of German-origin tanks Leopard 2 will be discussed as part of the EU talks about providing Ukraine with western tanks by other countries.

Leopard 2 tank has a quality advantage under soviet weaponry, lots of European countries have a number of these tanks and providing Ukraine with them will have a decisive sense for Ukraine’s victory, according to Ukrainian News.

Members of the Finnish Parliament and the Defense Committee of the parliament, Anders Adlerkreutz and Atte Harjanne made such an appeal to the government of Finland.

“Although Ukraine has received strong support, some weapons systems are still excluded from support.

These include Western modern battle tanks, which would significantly increase the strike power of Ukraine,” the deputies said in their appeal.

The parliamentarians noted that "new equipment requires training, so it would be especially valuable to supply Ukrainians with a large number of tanks of the same type."

The deputies explained that in the case of deliveries of tanks to Kyiv, the defence capability of Finland should not suffer, and instead of the transferred tanks, new ones should be purchased.
