Trump calls sen. Schiff “one of lowest forms of scum” amid mortgage fraud probe
US President Donald Trump has harshly criticised Democratic Senator Adam Schiff, famous for his anti-Azerbaijani rhetoric, calling him “one of the lowest forms of scum I've ever dealt with in politics.”
When asked whether Schiff should step down if indicted over apparent reports of mortgage fraud, Trump declined to weigh in on the legal issue, instead telling reporters, “I hope it’s true, but I don’t know anything,” Caliber.Az reports.
“But I would just say Adam Schiff is one of the lowest forms of scum I've ever dealt with in politics. He is a horrible human being. Very dishonest person. [...] I think he's actually a sick person,” the US president said.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, meanwhile, declined to comment on the ongoing investigation, stating, “We are not going to comment on any grand jury that's open. We can't legally.”
Sources told CNN that Ed Martin, an official in Trump’s Justice Department, has been pushing for the investigation to lead to an indictment. Maryland US Attorney Kelly Hayes has reportedly tried to limit Martin’s influence. Prosecutors are also reportedly considering reviewing additional records as they determine next steps.
