Malaysia floods force thousands to evacuate VIDEO
More than 4,200 people have been evacuated to temporary shelters across Malaysia as severe flooding continues to affect several states, authorities say.
According to the national news agency Bernama, the worst-hit areas include Perak, where 2,496 people were relocated, Kedah with 1,007 evacuees, and Penang, where 749 residents have been moved to safety.
Malaysian authorities have established at least 40 temporary evacuation centres for those affected.

Flooding has previously caused significant damage in Malaysia. In 2024, losses from widespread floods totalled 933.4 million ringgit ($215 million), equivalent to around 0.05% of the country’s GDP.
