NYT: US strikes on Kharg Island halt much of Iran’s oil exports
US strikes targeting the oil and gas infrastructure of Kharg Island on Friday, March 13, have halted a significant portion of Iran’s oil exports, according to a report by The New York Times.
Citing a senior official from Iran’s Ministry of Oil, the report said the attacks were described as large-scale and highly destructive.
Employees working at refining facilities on the island said the strikes triggered nearly two hours of continuous explosions that shook the island “like an earthquake.”
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the damage to Kharg Island’s oil and gas infrastructure would result in the immediate suspension of a large share of Iran’s oil exports.
Kharg Island is Iran’s main oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf and a critical hub for the country’s energy shipments.
