21 August 2026 12:07
At least eight people have died, and 39 others have been injured in the past 24 hours after consuming illicit alcohol in India’s western state of Gujarat.
The mass poisoning involving bootleg alcohol with a high concentration of methanol occurred in the city of Bhavnagar, Caliber.Az reports, citing Indian media.
Gujarat is one of India’s states where the sale and production of alcoholic beverages are completely banned.
Violating the ban can result in a lengthy prison sentence.
In March, 11 people died and around 40 were hospitalised in Gujarat after consuming illicit alcohol.
