Ukraine, EU discuss air defence, sanctions, Black Sea security
Ukraine and the European Union discussed measures to strengthen Kyiv’s defence capabilities and increase pressure on Russia during a call between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
Sybiha said he briefed Kallas on the consequences of Russia’s latest large-scale missile and drone attack and the current situation on the battlefield, Caliber.Az reports per Ukraine's Foreign Ministry.
The talks focused on additional air defence capabilities, including systems designed to counter ballistic missiles, as well as stronger sanctions targeting Russia’s ballistic missile production and supply chains.
The officials also discussed further steps toward the full use of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
According to Sybiha, the talks also covered security in the Black Sea and efforts to protect Ukraine’s maritime grain corridor. He said Russian attacks on ports and civilian vessels posed risks to Ukraine’s economy, freedom of navigation and global food security.
Sybiha and Kallas also discussed Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership, the next steps in the accession process, and developments in Ukraine and across Europe.
Sybiha said the two sides had a clear understanding of the priorities and decisions needed to advance their cooperation.
