Five missing after fire in Swiss Alpine town
Five people are missing, and eight others have been injured after a restaurant with apartments was completely destroyed by fire in the Swiss town of Thusis, British media says.
The fire broke out on the second floor shortly after midnight local time on August 21, according to Graubünden cantonal police. The cause remains under investigation.
Nearly 100 firefighters responded to the blaze. The stairwell collapsed, forcing firefighters to use a crane to open the roof.
Fourteen people escaped the building. Two were seriously injured, two suffered moderate injuries and four sustained minor injuries.
Those injured were taken to hospitals in Chur, Thusis, Ilanz and Zurich.
Police and the public prosecutor's office are investigating the cause of the fire.
Thusis is in the Alpine canton of Graubünden, also known as Grisons, a popular destination for winter sports and summer tourism in eastern Switzerland.
