SOCAR, Albgaz review gas project plans in Korçë
Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Albanian gas company Albgaz have held talks in the office of Albania’s energy regulator (ERE) on the progress of the Korçë gasification project, known as the “Nur” project.
Discussions focused on regulatory, licensing, and tariff issues aimed at advancing the city’s gas network, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Albgaz said the institutional cooperation represents “an important step in further developing the country’s natural gas infrastructure and ensuring a sustainable, integrated energy market.”
The project builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2024 between Albania’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, Albgaz, and SOCAR, targeting the development of Korçë’s gas infrastructure. Construction is set to begin in 2025 and is expected to be completed by 2027.
SOCAR opened its Albanian representative office on February 10, 2025. The office is seen as strategically important for the country’s energy infrastructure and will serve as the base for the pilot gasification project. A formal presentation of the project took place on 19 April 2025 in Albania.
