Vietnam Airlines cancel flights as typhoon Fengshen disrupts central part of country

22 October 2025 20:17

Vietnam Airlines have cancelled and adjusted multiple flights in response to Typhoon Fengshen, which is affecting central provinces with strong winds and torrential rain.

The storm, the 12th to enter the East Sea this year, has triggered widespread disruption, particularly in the cities of Hue and Da Nang, Caliber.Az reports, citing Vietnamese media.

Vietnam Airlines announced schedule changes for flights on October 22 and 23 to and from Hue and Da Nang, citing safety concerns related to the storm’s path. The airline also warned that other domestic and international routes may experience delays or cancellations depending on the storm's developments.

Affected passengers will be supported in accordance with Vietnam Airlines' service policies. The carrier also advised passengers to “keep their seatbelts fastened throughout the flight, even when the seatbelt sign is off,” due to the increased risk of turbulence caused by unstable weather.

The airline emphasized that the adjustments are “force majeure” measures and may change further depending on real-time weather conditions. Travelers are urged to stay informed via official channels such as www.vietnamairlines.com, the mobile app, Zalo, the airline’s Facebook page, ticket offices, authorized agents, or the hotline 1900 1100.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, five airports have been placed on high alert. Those forecast to be directly impacted include Phu Bai International Airport, Da Nang International Airport, and Chu Lai Airport. Meanwhile, Pleiku and Phu Cat Airports have been advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potential changes in the storm's direction.

In anticipation of adverse conditions, these airports have implemented contingency plans, including measures to prevent flooding, maintain drainage systems, and protect infrastructure and equipment.
